How can anyone vouch "personally" while anonymous? I'm not argueing with
what you're vouching for, but that's a silly statement.

>Why are we limited to just one CPU type with DirectX?
The MS Windows 2000 Alpha** Edition (internal use only) is said to have DirectX comparable to MS Windows 2000 X86-32 edition. MS Windows 2000 Alpha** Edition is said to be the early development platform for the other 64Bit Windows e.g. AMD64 and IA64. **Referring to Digital(DEC)’s 64bit processor not the release version.

Sega Dreamcast is said to be non-X86 CPU(SH4) with Windows CE and DirectX variant. PowerVR is a DirectX compatible add-on card for X86 PC and GPU solution for Sega's Dreamcast. Sega Dreamcast is also said to be the pre-cursor of the MS’s XBOX. IF PowerPC is as wide spread as X86(in MS’s POV) AND it’s earns income$$$ for Microsoft THEN it’s more likely that MS Windows 2K/XP/2K3 will be available for the PowerPC platform.

With MS's dotNET framework (when it's done); writing and supporting programs will not be as hard compared MS Windows NT 4.0 era (in regards to supporting multiple editions of the same Windows applications).

>I must admit I find the concept that playing these games would convince anyone >that Amiga Inc are on the right track positively hilarious as well.

Amiga won't be back until they've crossed the taboo line, with a 64-Bit OS running on either the AMD64 Platform or Intel's Itanium path.

First of all: Nice review, Dave. :)

I played all the games on W2k and Linux (desktop!) and they're all good for a
quick fun. But I would agree that, even including the word games released on
another card, this is yet more of a proof of concept than a breakthrough for
AmigaInc. I did not expect a major impact of the DE before 2003-05 anyway,
talking about realism here, who in his/her right mind could have expected that
AmigaInc. rises like Phoenix from the ash within one year?

What the DE has to do with Amiga? Well, other question: What had the CD³² to do
with Amiga? One is software, one is hardware and both include(d) some parts of
the 'real' Amiga platform. (fe. datatypes and other AmigaOS concepts on DE, the
chipset within the CD³²) Both are/were extensions of the platform to reach into
new markets. And this is necessary now as it was then. AmigaOS alone will, in my
believe, not be enough to bring Amiga back into the game. Of course, it's all I
want and need for my AmigaOne, but for the big picture, AmigaOS4 will not
attract anyone accept former Amiga users. Maybe enough to survive, but not
enough to grow significantly.

AmigaInc. have to open up steady revenue streams soon and they know it. Until
now they were facing exactly the problems most other startups have also, that
is a 'black zero' on the bank account, living from investor money for the first
years until a product line can be established, etc. I wish people would have
reckognized that when discussing the documents published by poor Woods,
too much bad blood flowing .. :-/ (sorry for the pun, Rich ;-)

But what do I know..

Ciao, Alex

So you going to get a Athlon-64FX or just bite the bullet and go for an Opteron 24x series? If the mobo prices take a drop for Opteron's in the next few months, I may go that route. I doubt I'll go with straight Athlon-64 (739 pins?), it's not worth it with the single memory issue.

Of course :-)

Look out for future versions of AROS ;-)

Bochs2.1 has an x86-64 mode too... so one can test the code without the need for a real x86-64 chip.
