Just a short note: I've noticed that an increasing number of people are using anonymizer URLs or CGI proxies when postings news items. Depending on the time of the day, my current work load, and how much time I have to do moderation tasks (currently not a lot), such items are very likely to be removed, rather than edited. A lot of these links just flat out don't work for anyone other than the person submitting the news item, and as such the quick fix is to just delete the entire item, rather than wait for the end of the day to be able to edit, and in the meanwhile have hundreds of people click on a link that doesn't work...

Hello Christian,

You have to realise that most of the crap posted on ann.lu from BAF's is through anonymous proxies. News posted through proxies should ***NEVER*** be allowed!

If you are smart enough to script a profiler to block some of these proxies, then you are my hero! To know what Garry Hare is posting as is interesting. :-)

He's talking about people posting links that link through a proxy in the link that get's posted, not people posting FROM a proxy.

Its the same thing. People posting as 'Anonymous' posting through anonymous proxies are the biggest plague in the amiga market.

You're missing the point. CK is talking about links that are posted, that when you click on them, take you to a proxy that tries to anonymise the link. He's not complaining about people posting through a proxy, just the links that they post that carry the proxy redirect inadvertantly in the link itself. These don't always work for people who are already browsing through a proxy, or are behind a firewall that blocks that proxy.

Personal opinion, I can't stand the one liners saying "click here".

Uhm, I can understand wimpy wusses trying to troll anonymously, but evolution has failed badly if they then don't take the anonymizer bit off the URL. :D

I have no problems with people posting anonymous, as long as they simply speak their mind (which most anonymous posters do, that's why they post anonymous and that's why some people get scared). My nickname hardly makes anyone of you more able to trust me. In fact, the only reason I can think of for people to demand non-anonymous posts is that *if* Mr.Satan said "I'm gonna bring hell on earth" 3 years ago - he is not to be trusted, whatever he says today. He could well have changed into a saint and no1 would care.

People want their opinion to matter, therefore when using a nickname (or their real name) they cannot change their opinion as easily. Because that would take away his/her accountability.

For example, some will surely think that this post is total nonsense. What will they do? They will attach that nonsense to the nickname "T1k", and from now on probably everything T1k says will be nonsense to them. The human mind at work.

I belive this thread was really about broken links but I just had to unload this.

----
T1k

Some links have to be indirect.

EG new york times through google because direct to nyt means people have to register to read one item.

Anonymous posting is useful as we get to hear from whistle blowers and vulnerable people.

Yes, thats true, but that don't mean that all your links that you post should be handled by google. Maybe people should give two links, one via the proxy and another directly.

How much useful information have we received through anonymous whistle blowers though ? And how can we attach a measure of validity to a totally anonymous post ?

The only good thing about anonymous posting is that you are spared the hassle of logging in if you just wanted to make a 2p comment.

Oh god!!! Why do I get the feeling that most of us ANN posters are going to feature in a book you're currently writing (and will probably make you a lot of money!!!). ;-)

Wayne Dresing, PhD is (insert supsensful music here) --- DoomMaster---

What he is talking about is if you use a service like anonymizer.com and come here and post a link ... like http://www.amiga.org

For some reason after you submit the post the link automatically gets changed to something like ... http://anonymizer.com/some=string==here=amiga.org even though you only typed in http://www.amiga.org

Does that explanation make any sense? I hope so.

Anyway, how's it going Dommy?
