Good morning. I hope you folks can help me, I'm not sure where else to ask so I'll ask here. I've recently purchased a used AmigaOne off of Ebay, and was told that the operating system comes with the board, but it hasn't been released, but will be sent to me as soon as it is. That's what I was told originally, it was even stated in the ebay sale. Now the story has changed slightly, he bought the board secondhand and has lost contact with the original purchaser so won't be sending me the OS! Do I have to reregister the board to get the OS? How do I get the OS, that I should have had anyway? Thanks for your help.

Please email Eyetech and Hyperion Entertainment with the serial number, and model type of your AmigaOne, your personal details. Their websites are:

http://www.eyetech.co.uk
http://www.hyperion-entertainment.biz

If you know the dealer that sold the board to the original owner, please contact them directly.

You could also try posting on www.amigaworld.net website, that's where most A1/OS4 discussions take place.

I should mention that I can't participate in Amigaworld.net's registered-only forums as the original purchaser is still using his registration for access there, claiming it's his right since he's a club member too and shouldn't have to transfer that when all he sold was a motherboard.

Should I tell Eyetech/Hyperion that I can PROVE I have the board in question and they could force the old owner to cancell his registration? My impression from the seller was that he'll deny having sold his board so he can stay on the registered lists.

I can prove I purchased the board, and that it's in my posession and not the other two's.

I would talk with Eyetech or the dealer in question rather than ask on here, where any answer would be pure speculation.

Er, what keeps you from registering yourself on AW.net?

For some reason, support discussion about the Terons must be kept hidden on the corporate fansite. Only Teron owners are allowed to post in the Teron support forum which is quite reasonable of course, but trying to prevent people from reading the current Teron users' hands-on experiences is pathetic. Symptomatic and sadly not surprising, but pathetic.

Marvin has to prove he owns a Teron to get access to these forums. To be a regular aw.net member you don't need to do anything except toe the line.

The original post wasn't about a Teron board. Read it again. It says "AmigaOne" ! :-)

Yep, a total idiot...the reason for the "hiding" is to keep the nonsense out and the focus in, just like about, oh, FIVE BILLION other websites out there that have "members only" sections for the same reasons.

I've posted my hands-on experiences with my AmigaOne publicly on several occasions, and I've been honest about it--it's not 100% perfect--but I pretty much get ignored so I gave up. Apparently I'm not scandalous enough. Apparently I have to go around saying it's the best, most bug-free computer of all time so people can yell "Articia!" and say I'm brainwashed, or else I have to say it's really an unusable piece of junk so the same people can say "Nyah, I told you so!"

Well, neither is true. I guess reality is too boring...sorry....

Bad news. They all lied. There is no OS for that board!

Oh, wait, you'd be satisfied with a beta release? Then you can go through the reasonable steps noted in previous comments. If they have a problem with the original purchaser being on the board still, just give them proof that you have it and have them remove the original purchaser - this assumes some sort of idiotic quota of course. (Proof? Classic approach is take a picture of yourself holding the board, and include a current major newspaper front page in the photograph with the date showing.)

I surely hope that the auction seller did not promise you a T-shirt too!

Why am I being so cynical? Well, this thread might actually be real. But it sounds a lot like someone had too much time on his hands and put together some hypothetical user with a set of problems to illustrate the parts of the AmigaOne community that he doesn't like. Sort of like a letter to Penthouse sex magazine, as a horror story instead of a fantasy - same amount of reality though.

I wondered too so I searched for completed AmigaOne auctions on ebay and could not find any ...
However I don't know how long they keep them, i could not find a Pegasos either.

I have seen couple Aones on E-bay, but the last one I noticed didn't sell at all cause starting price was set too high. Of course it may have been sold directly after the auction etc..

You're in bad situation, I'm afraid. The way AmigaOS4 is distributed makes it almost impossible to get a copy except when buying a new AmigaOne. I bought my A1 used (I'm the third owner, just like you) and due to a mix up I sent some time trying to get a copy of the OS4 pre-release CD for it from Eyetech.

Their line was very clear: if you can produce the original invoice for the board we'll sell you a copy of OS4, otherwise no deal. Without that bit of paper (which the guy I bought the A1 from didn't have) you'll get nothing out of them. They accepted that I actually owned the board and wasn't pulling a fast one or anything, but still just would not sell me the OS for it.

In the end I got the OS4 CD via the two prior owners, but if that isn't an option open to you the best route might be to try contacting Hyperion directly.

Contact Eyetech via email and get registred on Amigaworld.net. They will then probably contact Hyperion who will arrange for you to get the OS cd-rom.

Both Hyperion and Eyetech are normally extremely helpfull people so I should not think you'll get problems, might take some time to get a reply on the email though.

Good luck, OS4 is really nice and stable now after the pre-release upgrade.

Why isn't just money good enough? Hell, people want to give you money for something, why make it difficult?
