Most of the scripts behind ANN need updating or a complete rewrite. But apart from that, what do you think is missing on here? What would make you visit more often, participate more? Which features would make you stay longer, read more pages...? Right now, ANN is getting visits from between 2000 and 2500 unique IP addresses per day, but will only generate about 6000 pageviews per day, this month. That means an average visitor sees less than 3 pages per day, which is not much considering the wealth of comments, the polls, etc. What do you think?

Hm. Doubt you'd want to switch over to Slashcode (or would that even be possible?) after putting all the work into your current scripts... but it'd be rather nice to have some of the Karma/moderating system of Slashdot. That way I wouldn't have to see people's ads and such...
All you'd really need is a login mechanism (to prevent abuses), and a voting mechanism on each article.. just a +/- link.. if someone finds the article to be good, it gets moderated up a point, if it's drek, it's moderated down... and then news could be displayed sorted, with the best stuff on top and the least important expiring first when a new article comes in.
