299EUR for mainboard, CPU and OS? Expensive but not too expensive. Many PC users pay that amount for a gfx card. And while it's price higher than PC boards, it also has advantages: less power consumption, less heat, zero-noise, and MorphOS. Try to make a PC board + PSU (100W+x) zero-noise and look into your wallet again (some mini-itx boards are zero-noise but suck).
Re underperforming: a nonsensical statement because under or over depend on the use. Office apps, video playback, internet, mp3 etc. are well-served by a G3/600 and won't get much, if any, faster if you throw a 2000$ P4 Extreme Edition at them. On the other hand, it's underpowered for video encoding. For average use, the Pegasos feels pretty snappy. |
