The important bit is that it's a processor sitting on a daughtercard, which means you can use any AOS compatible processor in the G3/G4 range that takes your fancy.
OneVision gets everywhere, doesn't he?

The important part is that if it is a PPC750FX cpu modules it exists and may be ready soon !
I would hope that both amigaOneXE and pegasos would accept a wide range of CPU like:
PPC750CXE for low end
PPC750FX for middle end
PPC74xx for high end

How about some photos of an AmigaOne running AOS4.
I've got linux on an Intel box....don't need it on a PPC.

Hey, I didn't notice the dipswitch before. It's close to the CPU, so I guess that's the multiplyer selector.
I smell some serious overclocking in the air :-)

And yes, that surely looks like an 750FX :-)

I've just spent the last 1/2 hour scrutinizing those photos and concluded that it was 750F? then went to IBM's site and behold...750FX is the processor that goes to 1GHz! I'm happy! Yes, I believe it is a 750FX.

Not 'know', 'believe'. You can only know something if it's true (gosh I knew the bloody awful philosophy classes would come in useful some day).
The AmigaOne boards are _modified_, _redesigned_ Terons. Terons are evaluation boards, to be used as a basis for creating your own POP solution; you couldn't just sell them as-is, there'd be too many missing functions.
For those who're getting obsessed with the type of chip on the daughter card, it was just the one that was used with the prototype (the mobo in the photos is a prototype). It certainly doesn't mean that it's the chip that will be delivered with the board. It'll take G3, of course, but also G4 (let's all hope the prices come down over the next few months), and - really nice touch this - *dual* processor cards as well.
I'm working on an article to accompany the photos, but I got a bit behind since I'm very busy (and not just with the A1 dev board). Soon.

I think you mean it would be "hot" to overclock it, not "cool" ;-)
You should be EXTREMELY confident in your own ability not to screw up if you wanna overclock it, though. Since you won't have thousands of others to do it before you.
On the other hand, I always push it just a little bit upwards. Not because I need more speed, but it's the principle. There's always some leverage in CPU speed, but in this case there's no way of adjusting the system bus speed a few percent up or down to match the excact speed that is fastest but still working. So it's not an overclockers dream. It's Olegil's dream, though ;-)

Wow. More pics of this "Amiga"One running Linux.
Big smegging deal.
It's not an Amiga, it's more accurately "LinuxOnePPC".
Let us know if you ever get AOS4 to such a state that you can publically show it running, THEN you can call it "AmigaOne".
Until then, quit the pointless Linux shots in an Amiga site, please.

I would have thought a 1Ghz 750FX (3rd generation) will give greater performance than the fastest 74xx (4th genertaion) for non-Alitvec code. i.e Amiga OS4.0...
Untill we have compilers that make use of the Altivec unit, then the difference between 'G3' and 'G4' will remain marginal.
Given that the 750FX can be clocked to 1GHz, I know where my money is going...

Been there, done that ;-)
My previous calculations on the AmigaONE mailing list showed that this 600Mhz CPU is running at aprox. 102 degreees celcius wostcase (10W) without cooling. Recommended maximum is 105 degrees, so I can just dissipate the extra dT which active cooling provides. But I'm going to make a little hardware temperature monitor anway. MAybe I can do something with a Peltier element between the active cooling and the PPC to get the heat away from the chip as fast as possible. I made my own TEC controller once for laser temperature control.

They can't show any pictures at all if you like, but then you come back trolling anonymously that the AmigaONE is vapor or non functional hardware.

I think that Apple will get 1.4 Ghz G4 before the end of the summer. If the supplies are big enough non Apple customers might get some.
"Untill we have compilers that make use of the Altivec unit, then the difference between 'G3' and 'G4' will remain marginal."
Redhat announced a few months ago that they would bring heavy use of altivec in GCC. As both MorphOS and AmigaOS4 use GCC we may have some chance to run some altivec code.
But I agree that the 750FX is a great CPU and has a better price/performance ration than the G4. Some of us just want the fastest CPU and would buy more than one CPU if SMP modules were available. In this case the G4 is the appropriate choice.

>Given that the 750FX can be clocked to 1GHz, I know where my money is going...
Apple has 700MHz G3 in their iBooks now and IBM plans for 1GHz later (this year?).
The PLLs go up till 1.2GHz according to the available spec sheets.

use the northbridge architecture. The Pegasos uses soemthing akin to the SGi and ALpha making it much more
powerful.
The video of both I have seen as many have seen. Those videos proves the Pegasos is the best of the 2.

And you seem to believe all "12.218.x.x" says ?
Thendic annoucent that they had produced 50 boards in June and are
planning for up to 500 this month.
Another (and quite reliable) source tells me that they have splitted
this to some smaller runs, and that atleast another 50 boards were
made in the last week of June (at DCE by bPlan,NOT by DCE as you should
know).
The Pegasos uses the same northbrigde as the A1, but the southbridge is
one "generation" ahead, but that is something you should also know, or not ;)

Well, I finally found out who makes those nifty clear-plastic tower cases I've been seeing in all these photos, www.bacata.net has 'em!
Now if I can just find an American supplier for these puppies, I'll be all set! (I know some of their OTHER cases are available here, I've seen them in
magazine ads! One set of multi-tower full-height cases, available in different colors, on the bacata site is one I've seen being used for an American peecee company called Alienware or something of the sort.)
