If you've got some time to waste, read all the mails between a certain company and the Poseidon author on Platon42's Homepage. I hope this will make things a bit clearer to the public on the reasons, why I dropped further Sp*d*r registrations. But be warned: It is sometimes offensive and it is unabridged. Make up your mind, but please don't start pointless fights here. Opinions WILL differ. Keep them to your own, don't try to convince people. And won't be offended, if you didn't agree with me :)

I will not, because it's true. Who was the person that accused him that after
the RDB stuff, the Highway driver "magically" became faster?

Ah, then I was dreaming when I was accused of discrediting their products by
a very certain as... eh... employee, when I said that the Mroocheck drivers need
updating as they conflict with practically anything on the planet (hyperion games?) and support less mice than even the aminet DIY solution... And I'm not
FUDing, I DO own a Mroocheck and recently replaced it with PS2M from Aminet...
Works *MUCH* better, I can tell you...

Everyone may read the discussion in amiga.org in both versions: censored and original. Here are the links:

http://jacek.szczurek.w.interia.pl/Poseidon_reg_end.htm

It is clear that there is no slandering against the moderator on my part.
I have explained this issue with the amiga.org webmaster, who immediately restored my posting rights.

> - real market pricing for NEC USB cards ?

Many companies make cards with the NEC chipset. Prices for these cards vary a lot. I have given here price for the Belkin USB 2.0 card (73EUR) in the Media-Markt hypermarket.

If you are looking for the cheapest things, go for rubbish, some computer items may not be needed by other people and you will get it free :-)

> - his own knownledge on hardware design ?

It is enough to tell a rubbish product from a thing that is professionally designed and made.

The pics in your site show that your Zorro cards do not have gold-plated connections. If you really sell these cards in this form, my sympathy goes with your clients. I hope you are aware that majority of these cards may have problems with contacts after a year or two.

By the way, a computer card priced at about 100EUR, in which the producer saved pennies on gold-plating contacts, is a world-scale phenomenon.

I am signing here with my nick. I have given a link where my real name is given.

There is no such comment at your name, either :-)

I do not know who wrote something like this. Maybe you?
Surely not me.

Why didn't you give the link, liar?

Hi folks,

seems that Mr. Rat is still killing my time...

Upsa, this joke is on you :)
The NEC card I bought is *identically* to the Spider II card... well, not for 100%... the EEPROM is still original in my card.
So check yourself (only for highway_usb group members, sorry, but I know at least you are):

http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/highway_usb/vwp?.dir=/&.dnm=my_pci_card.jpg.jpg&.src=gr&.view=t&.hires=t

Is this a Spider II without sticker or a my card ? Either way, with your comment on it... interesting.

And your comment tells me all I need to know about your knowledge.
Real gold plating ("Hart-Gold" / "Steckergold") costs more than just some pennies.
"Chemical gold" being actually an Au/Ni combination has a thickness of about 5um to 10um and will vanish after some connection cycles. Afterwards, you have copper on air and will have even more fun with copper oxide.
This kind of stuff is fine for soldering, but nothing else.

Upsa, sorry, had the wrong name entered. Now there should be... can you do this also ?

So, back to your rat's hole.

I am a bit confused as to why all this discussion is here? There are a lot of points made that are subjective, or just an opinion, or whatever, and it is clear that a lot of whats left of the active Amiga community are sick of wasting their time and energy discussing and arguing about all the points.

One thing seems very clear cut to me - Elbox put RBD trashing code in their software that, intentional or not, activates if you do so much as put in a different USB card (as far as I understand it) - and in any case could activate if the memoryprotection-less Amiga decides to go a bit mad. Sure there are lots of rumours and subjective comment about elbox (and H&P, PXL etc for that matter!) but this is clearly a fact.

Whether or not they have now removed it, it was thought up by Elbox, implemeted by an Amiga programmer (who at least have enough morals to say "I'm not doing THAT!") and released to the very customers who keep Elbox in business (by the very nature of the fact you have to have a mediator and probably a spider to get them). This is clearly totally out of order by anyones standards, and evidently Elbox have not even managed to excuse themselves from doing this.

My Amiga setup has remined as-is since the closure of AmigaActive - On the occasions I check in with ANN looking for a big new development I just see ranting, arguing, legal threats and products I am really wating for being canned or still vaporware due to the hassle the producers are getting from the "community". I did really want a tower and a PCI solution for it, and only in the last couple of months have I been in a position to afford such things. However given the RDB trashing development, There is no way any of my money is going to Elbox, and I am VERY surprised that anybody who considers themselves a supporter of the Amiga would continue to fund Elbox for anything given this one event.

This is just personal opinion so please feel free to ignore it (but not flame it, thats the point of this post!!) but I feel it's time for those people who have things to do to get on with them. I personally made this decision long ago (how many posts do you see from me?), although unfortunately while I am always looking to help the Amiga along, I do not have the talent to design hardware or write decent software.

The only thing everyone gets from reading, paying attention and participating in all these arguments is less time to work on useful things, not to mention very annoyed. It's time people heavily involved in the current arguments say "these are the facts, here is my position, I've got stuff to do, no further comment" and go and get on with the things that make them happy. Elbox and the others tying up other hardware and software designers with arguments and bickering only leads to one thing - rival products not coming out quick enough!!!

PS: anyone recommend a decent PCI solution NOT by Elbox?
