A recent story on Slashdot tells us that SpamCop lost their domain name because of an incorrect phone number in their contact information.

What does this mean for Amiga Inc? If you do a whois on any of the domains owned by ainc, you'll see that ainc still (Oct 16) supplies the address that became invalid when they were evicted in June last year. They've been doing this for every update during the 18 months since the eviction.

Do you remember when Ray Akey (ainc webmaster) said that the address listed on amiga.com was "slightly incorrect" and would be updated "next week" (this was written in early March)? While they can ignore what their own web site says for 8 (or 18...) months, their domain name registrar GoDaddy.com requires any changes in contact information to be submitted within 5 days. Anything else is a "material breach of contract". I suppose ICANN themselves have similar requirements.

Either all ainc's domains are likely to go dead soon, or we can start guessing what new address will show up when we do a whois. :-]

I don't want a registration system, it would destroy ANN.

Just don't read the posts you aren't interested in, or untick the "unmoderated" section...

Even better: since ANN already store user's preferences one coulld
decide to not see in comments posts by anonymous users.
That would be nice :)

This is childish. Joker were clearly at fault for disabling the domain name from a single anonymous e-mail, and clearly have no authentication mechanisms for verifying who is the correct owner of a domain name for faxes, etc. How many people these days have access to a fax machine - old 80's technology that should not be used for anything like authentication at all! In fact, domain registrars often require "fax authorisation" for transfers to another registrar simply to raise the effort level above that of most people.

Having correct and up-to-date information in the whois is a requirement for domain name registration, yes. Having one element out of date is hardly a crime when the other contact mechanisms work though. Disabling the domain after all the whois details were corrected is a heinous breach of contract, and hopefully spamcop will get on Joker's ass about it.

Yeah, an Anti-Anonymous box and a cookie-stored exclusion list for troll-nicknames .. THAT would be nice, too! Add registration to that to raise the barrier for the puberty posters and we'll have a REALLY nice place in ANN again.

ROTFLMAO

This made my day. But then does anyone even go to amiga.com anymore? It's only wasting bandwidth. I wonder who pays for that bandwidth too?

Go Daddy have an anonymous domain holding service where the owner`s identity and contact details can be hidden.

It seems that looking at the URL below, it is not Amiga that is looking rather insignificant. Seems it gets more traffic than your shepherd site. So baa-a-a-a-a flee off to it, blue sheep and leave the red to us.
