Interested in having SCSI PCI on your AmigaONE system?
Click to find out more!
I am preparing to code a driver for a PCI SCSI card, that will run under OS4 and be optimised for the AmigaONE. I am taking submissions on which card I should code for.

SCSI for your AmigaONE ?? : Comment 51 of 71 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Christophe Decanini on 22-Aug-2002 22:56 GMT | In reply to Comment 48 (Mark Smith): "But why would you want to pay 50% more for a SCSI disk when the IDE one will perform in an identical manner ?"
Maybe because I already paid for:
- A few SCSI UW drives
- A SCSI scanner
- A SCSI ORB with
- A SCSI CDROM
- A SCSI CD Burner
" Not to mention that the SCSI card will cost you about 50% more than the IDE card ? And SCSI cabling will cost you a LOT more, then you have to worry about correct termination ? "
At least I can connect all these devices together. Even if I could ressell all of them and get the the IDE equivalent I would miss all the external stuff.
"IDE is in low end computers for a reason .. it's low end gear, it's easy and for mere mortals there is no gain in going SCSI. "
Yes but when you deliver a product to a certain market you have to be sure to satisfy the customers. A lot of Amiga customers have a lot os SCSI peripherals that they would like to use.
Apple had SCSI cards as option as soon as they went to IDE macs.
Of course IDE is a mandatory feature: both Amigaone and Pegasos have it so I don't see the urgent need to have IDE card drivers.
Later it will be a nice option to have drivers for RAID ide cards but SCSI comes much higher in the priority list. |
