Taken from AmigaWorld.net:
"It is with considerable satisfaction that Hyperion Entertainment can now announce the immediate availability for download of the first Amiga OS 4.0 Developer Pre-release update for registered Amiga OS 4.0 users."
Due to the extent and scope of the improvements incorporated into the update, it comes in the form of a full ISO image (33 MB) which needs to be burned on CD-R(W) by the user and is intended to replace the original Amiga OS 4.0 Developer Pre-release CD for installation and rescue purposes.
Please note that the file as well as the resulting CD is for personal use only and may not be distributed in any form to third parties.
Registered users may also opt to order a new full CD which also contains the updated SDK and contribution section (details and terms to be announced shortly).
Among the new features are:
* Kernel-Level Altivec support.
* Much improved compatibilty/speed of 68k emulation (JIT not included yet)
* Improved 68k FPU emulation
* Fully PowerPC-native Picasso96/graphics system
* Fully PowerPC-native MUI
* USB support for input devices
* Support for onboard serial and parallel hardware
* Driver support for the SiI0680 IDE adaptor (including UDMA support)
* Improved PIO mode VIA driver
* Improved Internet capabilities and better ethernet support.
* Printing support
* Improved audio hardware support, including new drivers.

Amiga OS4 pre-release update available : Comment 80 of 112 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Olegil on 11-Oct-2004 19:15 GMT | In reply to Comment 59 (Hans-Joerg Frieden): >> There is bound to be one or two people with problems.
>Yeah, I guess that is inevitable.
But why does it have to be me? ;-)
Problem one:
Cannot get Firmware to upgrade. Booting from CDROM written from ISO (directly with cdrecord, no extras) halts at error "No real ELF image installed as bootloader". Twice. So I didn't upgrade UBoot.
Problem two:
Upgrading the SLB turns my machine into an expensive paper weight. Machine halts with:
No config files found in any supported media/device!
No configuration found in any partition
Re-installing the old version worked, so I kept that ;-)
Problem three:
Installed the update on a fresh partition, renamed the old kickstart directory and copied across the new one to have a quick go. Halting at early boot menu, selecting the partition with the update as boot partition, go. Crashes at setpatch. Ooooh, this is starting to look like a fun evening.
Add to that, my new 4Mbit fiber-to-the-home worked for 15 whole minutes before shutting down completely today (I've had it for almost two weeks and have managed 15 minutes of surfing. Oh what joy). I am not amused.
Now I'm going home. Have forgotten to eat dinner today (oh well, I managed to squeeze down a whole pineapple, and it's still not too late to wok up some moose and add a bit of that uncle ben's tikka masala sauce I accidently purchased a while ago (hey, I know uncle ben sucks rats ass, I just couldn't get any other brands at the time...)) |
