A short news update regarding the Freescale SNDF Europe event: The list of the first 40 PPC developers who will join the SNDF Europe event and recieve complete Open Desktop Workstations (based on the Pegasos2), has now been sent to Freescale. Among those are AmigaZeux members as well as a number of DemoScene Teams. A list of the remaining 60 will be sent next week.

At 22-Aug-2004, Genesi made the following invitation public:

We would like to invite all interested PowerPC Developers to Smart Networks Developer Forum in Frankfurt on 30 September. You can attend the Tech Show in the morning and attend Workshops. In the afternoon we will have some special PegasosPPC oriented presentations, including a series of workshops on AltiVec. Lunch is included and developers who have been pre-approved and attend will be given an Open Desktop Workstation compliments of Freescale and Genesi. In exchange, developers are ask to file a monthly report on what they are doing with the machine - only basic guidelines for development will be given.

Please contact us if you are interested in developing for the platform and attending PegasosPPC Day at SNDF Europe.
(morphos-news.de, morphzone.org)

Any developer, interested in developing for any PPC OS platform, working with any project, seemed to be welcome to apply to these generous terms (look here, and here). Now the list of the first 40 people has been processed and sent to Freescale:

We submitted the list of 40 developers to Freescale today who will be hosted on 30 September at SNDF Europe in Frankfurt. Thanks to all of you who responded. We will be getting an information page up about the day's activities soon.

Next week, we will also be submitting an additional list of 60 developers who will also receive complete machines. We are very happy to announce that the AmigaZeux members will be included in this group, as well as a number of DemoScene Teams.

A big thanks to Freescale for their support on this developer program. In addition to the 100 machines going to developers in September, 75 more are being used to support the initial PegasosPPC pilot projects.

I mean, my reaction to this news article (ie that it made me feel sorry for Freescale) is perfectly on topic, while Fabio's attempt to turn it into another flamewar by asking about my reasons really isn't neccessary since it is something most should already know by now.

Well, that's very common... First make accusation and then refuse to tell what the accusation is based on...

Probably you're just afraid, that in the end people would notice that it isn't based on ANYTHING really. And you feel it's better idea to leave that claim in the air as "non-proven fact"

Please relief the huge stone from your heart and explain why you feel so sorry for FreeScale more than make it sound like a low troll-attempt.

This development is very good news for Genesi, PowerPC, and even the "Amiga community" in general since it demonstrates not only increasing acceptance of the Pegasos, but also the potential for alternative systems in general. In other words, this could be taken as a good omen for the AmigaOne market also (assuming that platform is up to the task also).

It's too bad that some sad individuals still need to post their pathetic little noises once again instead of realizing the positive aspects of what's happening.

Freescale obviously has all the information it needs about Genesi and the Pegasos. After all, they're investing many thousands of dollars, and corporations don't do this in an information vaccuum. No doubt they've also been contacted by fanatics eager to share their own versions of "the truth about Genesi". I feel sorry for the Freescale folks who have to receive this kind of mail, but by now probably it's being properly filtered.

Really, this is nothing but good news, and hopefully the next step in successful market growth. I think the word "loser" really does apply to people who can only criticize this kind of forward movement. For people with nothing but negative things to say, if the Pegasos isn't your choice, rather than wasting time and bandwidth flaming its progress, why not put that energy into positive efforts for your own preference instead?

>Well, that's very common... First make accusation and then refuse to tell
>what the accusation is based on...

But for christ sake, simply stating that you feel sorry for someone is not making an accusation, just a reflection on the issue at hand. Most people in here, especially Fabio, already do know my reasons and I really don't see the point in going through all that again.

Why don't you just appreciate the fact that unlike Fabio, I'm trying to avoid another one of those long threads of mudslinging? You don't think that if I granted your wish to tell you my reasons would create another of those 500+ posting threads? I'm quite certain that it would, hence why I refrain myself from doing so.

I think that people need start start accepting that we have different opinions if we are to get along in here. Expecting that people who don't have the same opinions as yourself to simply shut up is not realistic. Everyone has to be able to speak their mind and those who keep questioning other people's opinions are the real trouble makers. I can understand when someone questions claims and accusations, but if someone simply states their reflection or opinion about something, it's better to simply leave it be if you don't want to have another flame fest.

Is the above something we all can agree to?

Well, many people expected you to state what your opinions are based on instead of shutting up :)

For you leaving that "If they only knew..." comment "in the air" (not proving if Genesi really is good or bad) might seem like victory, but to most people reading it, it simply means nothing.
