Amiga-news.de asks: which system for 2002 : Comment 70 of 76 | ANN.lu |
Posted by David Scheibler on 26-Oct-2001 14:35 GMT | In reply to Comment 68 (Samface): Well actually I don't think they did know how much influence
the "community" has, at least they didn't know much about the European
Amiga users. It looked like they were a bit surprised that there were
some Amiga users who really asked how elate can be a desktop OS, etc.
But this first impression changed after they(Bill 'exciting' McEwen
himself) released the AmigaSDK on some fair in Germany in mid2000 and
dealers actually didn't sell many. Already on the second day the
dealers reduced the price of the SDK from 250DM to 199DM but then
again there were only a few users interested. Same goes to the
DevMachine.
After this their strategy more or less changed, they spoke about MP,
spoke about classic emulating *integrated* into elate and released
even OS3.9 which was of course developed by H&P and even then I got
the impression they didn't care much (50 000 sells for OS4.0, lol,
AFAIH not even 10 000 were sold). However when they saw that there
won't be a AmigaOne with elate native in Q1/01 they came up with the
idea of AmigaOS4. So it looks *now* that they care much about the
community but that wasn't IMHO from the beginning. Best example was
Mr. Peake who even didn't know about a former Commodore and Amiga
Techonogies member (the story with Rainer Benda). |
