Coldfire prototype, pics : Comment 59 of 67 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Samface on 29-Jun-2003 12:53 GMT | In reply to Comment 58 (Samface): To explain what I think the Amiga spirit is about:
Running a PC with Windows is like taking a cab for getting to point A to point B. Sure, it works and it's comfortable. However, running an Amiga powered system, regardless of what's "under the hood", is like beeing the main character in Grand Theft Auto (or Payback if you prefer); you walk out right in the middle of the street in front of whatever car you prefer, open the door, brutally throw out whoever is sitting in front of the wheel and take full control of the vehicle yourself.
The vehicle (the hardware) is just a commodity, the Amiga spirit is about beeing in control of the commodity. Restricting ourselves to just one specific type of commodity is only limiting our ability to practise the Amiga spirit in real life. The "laws" saying that each platform belongs to a specific type of hardware are old and outdated, I say screw those "laws" and let us be "computer platform criminals". If I buy a computer, I want to be the one in control of it, not Bill Gates or anyone else. That is what the "Amiga spirit" is all about. |
