[News] IOSPIRIT freezes its own AMIGA-developments | ANN.lu |

Felix Schwarz, with immediate effect, freezes the development of
fxPAINT, fxSCAN, VHI Studio and the IOUSB- and VHI-drivers. Medusa and
IBrowse are external developments and thus are not affected.
All products will stay in distribution. Whether the development will
be reactivated at a later point in time mainly depends on the further
economical and social development of the market and the profits made
with it.
The AMIGA-pages can be found at http://amiga.iospirit.de/ in the
future. Although www.iospirit.de currently still redirects to this
page, we nonetheless would be glad if existing hyperlinks in
AMIGA-context would be adapted accordingly.
Subsequently, you'll find an open letter from Felix Schwarz to the
AMIGA-community in all its occurences.

IOSPIRIT freezes its own AMIGA-developments : Comment 58 of 69 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Don Cox on 09-Mar-2004 19:29 GMT | In reply to Comment 57 (Anonymous): "It must be customers like you that make it fun to write software and sell it for cheap-ass prices."
I'm not asking for low prices. I've spent thousands of pounds on Amiga software.
All I am saying is that a program is not a simple, packaged take-it-or-leave-it product - actually very few products are. It is a stage in a continuing relationship between the programmer and his customers. IMO it is more rewarding for the programmer to know his customers and respond to their requests and suggestions than to work in isolation.
Have you read John Walker's "autofile"? This describes the growth of Autodesk and AutoCAD. Features were added almost entirely because of customer requests.
Lightwave is another program which has grown by responding to the needs of customers.
In Felix' case, his sales were probably so low that it was impossible to keep going, and I'm sure he regrets that. I am more responding to the anonymous person whose attitude is to throw a program at the customer, grab the cash, and run. That is a stupid way to do business. |
