New Executive Update : Comment 107 of 128 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Joe "Floid" Kanowitz on 24-Jun-2002 22:26 GMT | Is it a loan? Is it a preorder? Does it matter?
Look at it from a goofy perspective- any purchase a 'consumer' makes is a loan charging 0% interest with the product given as collateral... and depending on return policies and the used market, you may or may not even get a return on that loan, or you may be perfectly satisfied with the exchange. In most cases, you've a good chance of being satisfied by the product; in the PartyPack or this case, the initial 'collateral' may not be that great, but you've a chance of a return.
Everyone wants your money- farmers, supermarkets, gas stations, oil companies, software companies, hardware companies, the RIAA... Figure out your economics, your chances of being satisfied on the return, and pony up or don't. If you want an AmigaOne, this is a reasonable deal- even if you're "loaning" to keep Amiga alive, that increases your chances of getting the hardware you want (and increases the chance of getting it at a reasonable price, if the volume orders can be pulled off). If you could care less, you're not going to plonk down, you don't need the hope of a bulk discount or any silly raffle prizes, and everything's cool. As I've said before- I'm not always certain I'm making the best investment on this stuff, but if money soothes the nerves and increases the chances of the product I want being produced, so be it. I'll put my money where my mouth is, and wail loudly about the things that annoy me and might keep me from throwing down more. :) [Now, for the DRM petitioners- if you can arrange a seperate petition for those who *have* sent cash Amiga's way, I might consider 'signing' that. Purchasers are investors; everyone else is a voice in the wilderness, for better or worse.]
The only problem with this setup is that, with $100 on the PartyPack, and $50 heading towards this offer when I get my accounts straightened out, that's $150 I won't have to plonk directly at an A1. I hope the economics work out such that selling a machine *is* better than keeping the price high (discouraging actual sales) and hanging onto the $150... anyone want to toy with the numbers there? |
