If it only were so simple. While you are right that any salesman would do the kind of talking bill always does, very few of them are CEO's of a company that has a very loyal and marginal following. Even at the risk of sounding absurd here, I would like to claim that bullshitting people with as clear intentions as bill has done recently (how many of even the most loyal ones believe him anymore when he says "it's REAL soon now HONEST!"?) does make his values and believability seem kinda low.
What annoys me is the part where he often swears us he is telling the absolute truth this time, only for that 'truth' to be knocked over a bit later in an exec. update or in an interview. For an experienced and educated salesman he sure is doing a LOUSY job! I mean look at what's left of the community. A bunch of people who are so desperate for their platform to survive they would believe anything coming from the top, even if it was 'ELVIS LIVES AND PIGS CAN FLY!' And yet even the most loyal of people have now started to feel unsure because of bill's sales tactic. If you ask me he should realise it's time to switch tactics.
Let me give you an example. Go to a store and the salesman there tells you utter crap to convince you for making a purchase. Then go to another shop where the salesman sounds like he's telling the truth, even you know he isn't coz he's a salesman afterall, which store would you prefer over the other?
I don't know about you, but I would choose the one with less obvious lies, even when I would be perfectly aware that BOTH shops were sweet talking me to buy something.
My point to this is and was that bill's tactics is BAD for their own business. As for now AI only has us for customers and it's absurd talking about getting people who abandoned amiga long ago back just yet. So were the only market for them now, with the difference to those who have left long ago, that we have GOOD knowledge of whats happening in amiga market. Talking BS continuosly knowing that we are going to hear about it too is simply crazy or arrogant (don't know which or maybe even both!) That can damage the loyal following and hence the only market they got. Who want's to support a company that has a dubious image?
I can not but draw the only conclusion out of this is that they simply have something way much bigger in mind and don't care about us, not even as a stepping stone anymore. Or then they just live in a cloud of dreams and underestimate us in a way it's almost insulting. > roll on another coupon scheme! |
