Due to censorship by Argo the thread is locked but it is interesting to see a major Anti Amiga Inc webmaster turn in to a Genesi attacker and a certain website defender.

Interesting thread on Amiga.org : Comment 88 of 382 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Senex on 06-Sep-2004 17:28 GMT | In reply to Comment 77 (Bernie Meyer): If I think anything can be done about it?
Well, one thing is that I'm not sure if there really can be done anything - or rather if any active doing is even required.
As you analyzed correctly in my opinion (as far as I can judge from the comments over there at amiga-news.de), the majority of people - especially the productive ones and those who simply use the Amiga because it's fun, their hobby - simply has stopped to comment. Those still "discussing" are mainly, besides very few hardcore-evangelists, always the very same handful trolls, (mental) kiddies, other people without life and/or (girl-) friends. They just filled the vacuum, while the majority of the users doesn't seem to be that hostile as the public troll comments suggest.
During the same time, developments on both sides (red/blue) didn't really perform quantum leaps, so there wasn't much new which could be discussed in an educated manner anyway.
So either once new products pop up the currently silent majority takes back a big part of the comments and fora - or nothing will change at all since most of today's trolls are simply provoking as an end in itself.
That aside, maybe a positive example could also help. If I look at popstars, sportsmen, etc., it seems many people need leaders and like to follow them. So far, many of our Amiga celebrities didn't really blot themselves with glory regarding a friendly and professional behaviour. Infamous examples can be watched still in the present time. So maybe if some new company would appear, one with good relations to the one "side" but which would be also open towards the other, thus demonstrating the wanted friendly behaviour in practice, this might help a lot at reconciling the whole community of Amiga users. |
