Amiga have just released this press release about the AmigaOne hardware spec. Eyetech will build the first actual boxes, which are Classic Amiga/AmigaOne hybrids (both A1200 and A4000-based models will be available) and will be based on PPC. They are scheduled for a Q1 2001 release. First stand-alone AmigaOnes should ship in Q3 2001. Also, the development of the Classic AmigaOS will continue with v3.9 coming out before Christmas.

Amiga announces the AmigaOne : Comment 31 of 119 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Anonymous on 20-Oct-2000 22:00 GMT | Well here again we are offered a solution that will only benefit
a certan segment of the current Amiga user base...that being A1200
and A4000 owners.
What about A3000, A3000T's users and A4000T users. I think this is
a tragic mistake and I have been one of the Amiga faithful for years.
I'd rather quit using computers rather than using anything but Amigas.
Now were told it will be the end of NEXT year before a new Amiga computer
comes onto the market. This again IMHO is a tragic mistake, as this solution
is going to benefit a portion of the Amiga user base and will not get
any new Amiga users. This doesn't even make sense, as I thought the
whole idea was to not only keep the existing user base and to gain
new users.
We also have the IBM POP motherboard which is completely designed and
all anyone has to do is to build the d*amn thing. It seems to me it
would be as easy to build a POP motherboard for the new Amiga as
to keep doing these BORG addons...thus having the new Amiga out in
a few months. IBM spent millions on R&D, thus Amiga, Inc. nor any
of their hardware partners would have a cent in R&D. All they
have to do is build it. A year from now is not good IMHO, and I'm
afraid this is a very bad mistake. I am one of the Amiga faithful
owning multiple A3000T's, which it seems no one is going to even
make anything for this except Elbox, but my faith is wavering.
I cannot even believe that I have come to this point. :/ |
