Amiga have just released this press release about the AmigaOne hardware spec. Eyetech will build the first actual boxes, which are Classic Amiga/AmigaOne hybrids (both A1200 and A4000-based models will be available) and will be based on PPC. They are scheduled for a Q1 2001 release. First stand-alone AmigaOnes should ship in Q3 2001. Also, the development of the Classic AmigaOS will continue with v3.9 coming out before Christmas.

Amiga announces the AmigaOne : Comment 47 of 119 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Dave Mountford on 21-Oct-2000 22:00 GMT | An interesting approach by AI.
When they wouldn't say if they would emulate the old amigas on the new platform or no I suspected that they would rely on using the amiga on a card solution that somebody (siamese?) was developing.
Personally I don't think they Eyetech solution is for me. My 1200 is dying, and is for the most part completely outdated and outclassed by everything else out.
I was interested in the standalone ATX board, but I'm not going to wait until Q301 to get one. I'd much rather spend my dosh on a cheap Duron 650.
I think I'm not alone in wanting a system that I can run Windoze (for a few apps, but mostly for games!) and the Amiga DE on. |
