I am currently being threatened by my former employer (they are "compelled [to] take action against [me]") for the way I am running ANN, and how this allegedly violates my employment contract with them ("interfere _in any manner_ with any business relationship between the Company and any of its customers or business partners"). This might entail drastic changes to the relative freedom of speech ANN has always allowed its visitors, or ANN might close down altogether. Updated 10:00 CET.

Legal threats? : Comment 888 of 1057 | ANN.lu |

no, i just react to the facts given. Freedom of speech is a very important thing to me, more important than anything else infact. So I reacty quickly and strongly to such things, you have to, its the only way to be fully vigilant against opression of free speech.
Yes, but this isn't an question of free-range freedom of speech, from what I can read. That's why Christian Kemp is involved rather than owners of other news sites/forums. It's a question of an employer/employee contract. Christian's post said (they are "compelled [to] take action against [me]") for the way I am running ANN, and how this allegedly violates my employment contract with them ("interfere _in any manner_ with any business relationship between the Company and any of its customers or business partners"). So the dispute isn't about freedom of speech per se but, apparently, about the interpretation of Christian's employment contract.
Because we can't see the entire contract but only selected exerpts, and because Genesi hasn't made it's side of the issue known, and because I don't believe there are bona fide legal experts among us who could give an opinion about the validity of the (partially disclosed) contract clauses, I think this whole discussion is pretty pointless. It does, of course, continue the amiga community tradition of laypeople making authoritative statements about things outside their area of expertise, though, so in that sense it's to be expected.
I suspect Genesi may have sent its message to Christian as a part of its 'defense' related to the Amiga court wrestling, since posts at ANN.lu were involved. And I suspect Genesi hasn't commented further on the advice of its lawyers, considering that earlier forum activity may have 'complicated' the legal situation for them. Just my hunch, though; I have no information to verify any of this speculation.
