[Forum] Where can I get the OS?ANN.lu

Good morning. I hope you folks can help me, I'm not sure where else to ask so I'll ask here. I've recently purchased a used AmigaOne off of Ebay, and was told that the operating system comes with the board, but it hasn't been released, but will be sent to me as soon as it is. That's what I was told originally, it was even stated in the ebay sale. Now the story has changed slightly, he bought the board secondhand and has lost contact with the original purchaser so won't be sending me the OS! Do I have to reregister the board to get the OS? How do I get the OS, that I should have had anyway? Thanks for your help.

What happened to Bill McEwan, Fleecy and the rest of the Amiga team ? Are they all gone since Amiga sold the OS rights to KMOS ? What is KMOS doing ? Going silent for over 6 months ? Why are all the Amiga sites (www.amiga.com etc) still up and running if there is no one left ? Can anyone give any highlights regarding this ?

By Leander Kahney 02:00 AM Sep. 13, 2004 PT A Silicon Valley startup claims to have cracked one of most elusive goals of the software industry: a near-universal emulator that allows software developed for one platform to run on any other, with almost no performance hit. Transitive Corp. of Los Gatos, California, claims its QuickTransit software allows applications to run "transparently" on multiple hardware platforms, including Macs, PCs, and numerous servers and mainframes...

Trolling has almost become a dominant behavior on Amiga/AROS/MorphOS forums and leaves its marks on the reputation of the community and that's why I think it deserves an article and an open discussion. I have been lurking on Amiga forums for quite some time but our local Amiga usergroup closed its doors many years ago, all I own is a A1200 without too impressive specifications and hopefully one day a new Amiga computer. This is mostly a summary of my personal experiences and my interpretation of events which I use to investigate the anti-AmigaOS4 trolling we see today by mostly a small vocal group of AROS and MorphOS supporters. I will name no names and it's really more relating to a diverse group of people often acting in a rather similar way when it comes to AmigaOS4. Please read the whole article before just flaming away.

With the release of AMP for OS4 the binaries comes with compiler symbols, which reveals few interesting things. Amidog movie player is staticaly linked with libdvdread (GPL) libdecss (GPL) libdvdnav (GPL) and libquicktime (LGPL). Also, mpeg video decoder uses libmpeg2 (GPL) and ac3 decoder uses liba52 (GPL). Apparently, AMP author was warned about that on his discussion board, but seems like he silently ignored the fact of breaking GPL licence(s).

[Christophe - Amidog has released the AMP sources]
